Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock somewhere, chances are you’ve heard the buzz about Nintendo’s latest creation, Wii Fit. If you haven’t, here’s a brief rundown. Wii Fit is the new lifestyle product for the Wii Console that combines the fun of gaming with the benefits of exercise. The Wii was a revolution in itself in the way that it allowed users to interact with games using wireless motion sensitive controls that were fun and easy to use, appealing to both gamers and non-gamers alike. Wii Fit takes this concept one step further with the introduction of the Wii Balance Board which comes bundled with the game.
The Wii Balance Board
The Wii Balance Board looks a lot like an oversized bathroom scale but it actually contains four pressure sensors that allow it to very accurately determine a user’s weight and their position on the board. This information is sent wirelessly to the Wii Console, allowing games to interpret a whole new range of motions and provides a completely new gaming experience. Wii Fit is the first game to take advantage of the Wii Balance Board and features over forty different exercises and games including yoga, muscle workouts, aerobic exercise and balance games.
Wii Fit is an Instant Hit
Wii Fit was launched in Japan at the beginning of December 2007 and it was an immediate hit, selling almost 1.8 million copies in the first four months. It was then released in the UK on the 25th April 2008 and almost immediately topped the UK gaming charts. Within days, retailers had sold all of their initial stock allocations and it was estimated that over 200 000 copies of Wii Fit were sold within the first week. In fact, one high street chain claimed to be shifting 90 copies a minute on launch day. Wii Fit is scheduled for launch in Australia on the 8th May 2008 and in the US on the 19th.
What’s Next after Wii Fit?
There’s no denying the success of Wii Fit even before its US launch which will no doubt be massive, but I predict that ultimately it’s the Wii Balance Board that’s going to be the big hit in 2008. Wii Fit has taken Wii from being just another games console to being an actual lifestyle product that wouldn’t seem out of place in the average home and this will mean a potentially huge increase in the gaming market. As the buzz and excitement of Wii Fit dies down, many Wii Fit owners will begin to wonder what else they can do with their Wii Balance Boards, and that’s when things will really start to get interesting.
Upcoming Wii Balance Board Games
Right now (1 May 2008), Wii Fit is the only game available for the Wii Balance Board but that will definitely change in the coming months. Namco Bandai has already confirmed the release of We Ski in the US on May 13 and 2k Sports have Don King’s Prizefighter scheduled for June and the list will grow. In fact, Nintendo US COO, Reggie Fils-Aime, confirmed that over 10 games were already in development.
No other games have been confirmed but there are already rumours spreading of Nintendo snowboarding, EA Skate, Rayman Raving Rabbids and even future Mario titles. Like I said, nothing’s been confirmed but whatever the case, Wii Balance Board games are definitely going to be a big hit in 2008.

While many video games have turned today’s youths into small couch potatoes: Nintendo Wii is looking to change all of that. Nintendo Wii, or simply called “Wii” by most people, is an interactive action-based video game you hook up to your television set.
The Wii has taken the U.S.A. by storm and has continuously sold out from any store it has been placed in. People will stand on line in rain, snow or any type of weather to get their hands on the Wii. The Wii sells on eBay for up to three times its selling price of about three hundred and fifty dollars.
When you purchase the Wii gaming console, you get a number of things. You receive the Wii sports disk with several popular sports to play either as a dual player, 4-players or just as an individual. You receive hardware such as the Wii console, remote, nonchuck, sensor bar, console stand and an AV cable.
Everything about the Wii is smartly designed. The Wii console is slim and sleek and will look attractive next to any television set. It is also discrete looking and not bulky or the type of gadget that will take up a lot of space in your living room or family room. The Wii remote control is very intuitive, with buttons being different sizes and also different shapes. You can easily understand just how it works as you are setting up your Wii to play games.
To play Wii you create your own Mii character to represent yourself in the games. This is very much like an avatar that you may have created at Internet websites. The Mii characters are attractive and friendly. While the Mii character will not look exactly like you, it is fun to see this character that looks similar to you interacting within the game or activity you are playing.
This summer Wii has come out with their latest creation: Wii Fit. The Wii Fit is an athletic game of sorts that teaches body sculpting, yoga and aerobics. You can take your BMI (body mass index) and also track your fitness levels. This is ideal for the person that wants to get in shape or who may want to lose some weight. The Wii Fit offers five different sports activities. The activities are easy enough for a beginner to start and will be enjoyable for the advanced exerciser.
The only challenge one could wonder about is if those that use the Wii Fit will get bored with the exercises just the way people get bored with an exercise DVD and they require some type of variety for stimulation. Perhaps Wii is already ahead of us in this respect and is planning even more athletic “games” to be added to Wii Fit.
The Wii is a very creative idea for a video game and certainly has both children and adults getting up off the couch to play with it. This fun game can burn several hundred calories an hour, just like regular exercise. With its popularity, it is clear that many adults and children are enjoying Wii very much and continue to use it far beyond its early popularity. Nintendo is known for bringing us many high-quality video games and the Wii is simply an ingenious answer to the American obesity crisis.

David Foray asked:
Wii Fit is ideal for everybody. But what is it and why are so many people want to get it?
Nintendo Wii Fit with Wii Balance Board turns your TV room into a fitness centerfor the whole family. Family members will have fun getting a “core” workout, and viewing results and progress on a new channel on the Wii Menu. Nintendo’s system has made gaming more accessible by converting natural human motion into game control, and with every move of the wrist it has been getting a whole new base into the fold as full-fledged videogamers. What Wii Sports and the Wii Remote did for bringing sports to the living room, Wii Fit and the Balance Board are doing for physical fitness and workout. Nintendo has finally established some things they’ve sought for a long time: expansion of the gaming industry and a few successful peripherals. They’ve been trying to convert us that add-ons are the way since the beginning.
Wii fit is fun at first it because everything is new and exciting to play. But the problem is, it doesn’t take long to master the balance games and soon after the game loses a lot of appeal, just as the wii sports package did. It is a great tool for what I want. All my other exercise equipment is accumulating dust while my board needs everyday cleaning from all the use it gets.
Wii Fit is actually geared at exercise. It is a game that comes with a balance board. It has yoga and a lot of other exercise programs on it. It is more about cardio and minor strength training and so you need to do a lot more on top of using the Wii Fit for it to be any sort of benefit to your health. Thanks to its gesture-based interface and a roll of gyration-inducing games, the Nintendo Wii has always offered the bestowed benefit of a low-impact workout. Now there’s Wii Fit , a $90 software-and-hardware bundle, the noble purpose of which is to get gamers to loose those undesirable pounds.
Anyone who has experienced the Wii’s motion-controlled games knows that playing them can be quite an exercise, but “Wii Fit” takes that idea to a whole new level of exhaustion. The goal is to make exercise fun for the whole family. Anyone who is serious about weight loss won’t completely leave it to a game! Even without the game, individuals don’t solely trust on scales to check whether or not they are overweight, they look in the mirror, judge by the feel of their clothes and how they feel personally.
Wii fit is only another instrument available. It is a unique and innovative way to help you and your family stay fit in the comfort of your house, through simple daily exercises. More than a gaming experience, Wii Fit is a health and lifestyle tool with more than 40 exercises, across four categories: balance games, yoga, muscle workouts and aerobic exercises. Wii Fit is potentially more revolutionary than Wii Sports in it’s aim to attract “casual” gamers. Once people see fitness as being more accessible and fun, then there’s no stopping Wii.
Wii Fit is a great supplement for anyone’s exercise routine. Using the slightly heavy and durable Wii balance board, Wii Fit tracks a user’s weight and BMI (Body Mass Index) by measuring the user’s weight and height.
Wii Fit is already starting to pop up in fitness centers across Japan and we’d imagine a similar reaction here in the US. Wii Fit is simple to use, and simply the most fun way to keep you, your family and friends fit. It is a million seller in the US. Nintendo themselves said they would have a million units of Wii Fit for the US launch.

Michelle Bery asked:
So you have decided to purchase the hottest new thing in video gaming; the Nintendo Wii. When you purchase your Wii system you will have everything you need to plug in and start playing, including Wii Sports, a game that provides a great way to learn how to use the Wii system’s revolutionary, motion sensing, controllers. However, the Nintendo Wii does not include everything you need to maximize your gaming experience, and that is why there are several must-have Nintendo Wii accessories.
The Nintendo Wii comes with one remote controller - the Wiimote - and one Nunchuk, which is a motion sensing analog controller that attaches to the wireless Wiimote. If you want to enjoy the head-to-head action of the great games included with Wii Sports, then the first of the Nintendo Wii accessories that you should consider is an extra controller. The Wii can accommodate four controllers, so fitting a second into the system is not a problem.
The Nintendo Wii is compatible not only with games designed for the Wii, but for Nintendo GameCube titles as well. If you do not have a GameCube controller already - your existing GameCube controllers are compatible - then one of the more useful Nintendo Wii accessories is a GameCube controller. Not only will that allow you to play a wider variety of games, you can also play the classic games that are downloadable to your Wii system. However, you need more than the GameCube controller to fully replicate the features of the GameCube games. Without a GameCube memory card, your progress through many of the games will be lost each time you shut down your Wii. A GameCube memory card will allow you to save your progress and play at your leisure. Again, if you have existing GameCube memory cards they are compatible with the Wii.
Speaking of classic Nintendo games, the Wii system’s Internet capabilities make it possible to download those classic games of Nintendo’s past. Downloads are not free, however, and Wii Points are the currency of choice. Therefore, one of the more useful Nintendo Wii accessories is a prepaid Wii Points card that will allow you to easily browse and purchase many of your favorite games from all of the Nintendo predecessors. However, if you plan to purchase many of these classic games it is only a matter of time before you fill the 512mb memory of your Wii system. Purchase a 1 gigabyte SD memory card and you will have all the room you need with plenty to spare!
In order to take advantage of the game downloading abilities, as well as other aspects of the Wii system’s menu functions, you need access to the Internet. That makes the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector one of the most important Nintendo Wii accessories. With wireless Internet access in place, you can use your Wii to play games, surf the Web, and coming soon: head to head virtual play!
All of these Nintendo Wii accessories add up to form an impressive array of gaming and entertainment capabilities, but without a component video adapter the picture quality of the Wii might fail to reach its potential, especially if you have a High Definition television. With the adapter in place you will enjoy a crystal clear picture which will enhance your Wii - and your Nintendo Wii accessories - so much more. And one more thing: invest in some rechargeable batteries in order to keep those wireless remote controls at peak performance!

So, I’ve always been a casual fan of Aerosmith, and I’ve seen them live 3 times. I’m also a big fan of Guitar Hero, so I thought this would be a perfect match.
Luckily, my friends came over with a new copy of the game and we began to play through the campaign. We started off with some songs I’ve never heard of, and it continued that way for what seems like an hour, or about 8 songs before we played anything we recognized.
Sensing that we had gotten ‘over the hump’ as far as the not so popular songs go, I figured more good tunes were coming.
But they weren’t.
Instead we kept on getting more songs that I’ve never heard of until we went through another 5-7 songs to get a radio hit. By this time, I was frustrated and just didn’t have the desire to continue.
One the great things that makes this game fun is well, to play songs I’ve heard of before. I know Aerosmith has easily 20 songs that have been radio hits, and that is what should’ve filled up this game.
So, I give it a 6/10 rating - had it more popular songs sooner, it could’ve topped out at an 8.
I hear they are doing a Metallica Guitar Hero - hopefully, they use the old songs from the band and not the new ones, as that would certainly be an injustice not to do so.

If life has ever taught me anything it’s that hard work and dedication is for chumps especially when the easy road is only a couple of click away, and because there is a large segment of the population that thinks the same way, Wiisave.com exists! It’s a website that allows you to download saved Wii games onto your SD Ram card, pop them into your system, and enjoy the fruits of other people’s labor.
Think of all the ladies you will be able to get when you tell them you beat Red Steel at 100%.

Want to kill some time and play some classic Nintendo games (in that order)? Click here and visit Nintendo8.com. It’s a very cool online site that has hundreds of classic NES games you can play through an emulator built into your web browser. I’m definitely a fan of the site as it is very easy to navigate, there’s lots of games, no advertisements and the emulator works fairly well. Enjoy!
